March 16 (SeeNews) – Armenia will embark on a solar park project of
at least 30 MW so as to test its solar energy potential, ARKA news
agency said Friday, citing a government official.

The phovovoltaic (PV) plant is planned to be constructed by 2016,
the country’s deputy minister of energy, Hayk Harutiunyan, has
said. The project will be developed as part of a scheme that aims
to test Armenia’s solar power potential and lower its dependence on
fossil fuels. The country also has plans for some geothermal power
capacity and there are some wind trubines installed.

Depending on the performance of the 30-MW pilot plant, Armenia might
offer a special tariff for PV projects, ranging between AMD 50 (USD
0.104/EUR 0.099) per kWh and AMD 70/kWh, the head of tariff policy
at Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission Garegin Baghramyan
told Armenpress in the summer of 2014.

Back then, the Armenian government committed to invest USD 26 million
(EUR 24.7m) in the country’s solar energy development programme.

(AMD 100 = USD 0.208/EUR 0.197) (USD 1.0 = EUR 0.950)
