Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to visit Yerevan on April
and attend the events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the
Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, according to the Kremlin.

“A meeting of the presidents of Russia and Armenia will take place
within the framework of the visit and during this meeting the sides
plan to discuss issues of the bilateral agenda, interaction within
integration unions as well as current regional and international
topics,” Russia’s RIA Novosti reported, citing a Kremlin statement.

It is said in the report that the visit of the Russian leader will
take place at the invitation of the Armenian president.

Leaders of a number of nations will be in Yerevan for the April 24
events. French President Francois Hollande has already confirmed his
visit. Earlier, the Russian president’s spokesman did not rule out that
Putin and Hollande could meet “on the margins” of their participation
in the Genocide Centennial commemoration events in Yerevan.

Like two dozen other nations both Russia and France have officially
recognized the killings and deportations of 1.5 million Armenians in
Ottoman Turkey as genocide.
