ARMENIA WINS OVER UKRAINIANS IN THE SECOND ROUND OF WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
YEREVAN, April 21. /ARKA/. Armenia’s chess team won over Ukrainians
2.5:1.5 on Monday in the second round of the world championship in
Tsakhkadzor resort town.
Levon Aronian defeated Ruslana Ponomareva. Sargsyan, Movsisian
and Melkumian played draws against Ivanchuk, Elyanov and Moiseenko
respectively.
The other second round results were India-USA 2:2, Hungary-China 2:2,
Egypt-Israel 2:2, Cuba-Russia 2.5:1.5.
The leaders after the first two rounds are Israel, Cuba, China and
India with three points each. Armenia, Ukraine and Hungary have two
points each. Americans and Chinese scored one point each.
The Russian team is the only one to have recorded two defeats at the
