On the sidelines of the official visit to Cyprus, Armenia’s defense minister Vigen Sargsyan laid a wreath at the ‘Filakizmena mnimata’ – (Φυλακισμένα Μνήματα) monument on May 30. The monument is dedicated to the Cypriot heroes who were sentenced to death by the British leadership on the island during the 1955-1959 national-liberation struggle. The monument is located in the territory of Nicosia’s central prison, where the fallen heroes are buried. Minister Vigen Sargsyan paid tribute to the memory of the fallen fighters and left a note in the honorary guest book, the defense ministry told ARMENPRESS. On May 30, the Armenian defense minister also laid a wreath at the monument in Nicosia’s military pantheon, which is dedicated to the memory of the fallen Cypriot soldiers who died during the subsequent military operations as the Turkish army invaded Cyprus in 1974.
