Food: Watertown Has a New Restaurant That Serves Cheesy Egg Boats

A restaurant that opened in Watertown at the end of October has a carb-and-cheese-filled menu complete with Georgian khachapuri, or bread boats filled with egg and cheese, along with pizza, calzones, and more. Flaming Pit Restaurant opened for business on October 24, then briefly closed following a small fire in early December. Now, it’s back up and running at 222 Arsenal St. and raking in some reviews on Yelp, including a number of raves for the Armenian portion of the menu.

The menu at Flaming Pit features several Armenian dishes, including the khachapuri (technically from neighboring Georgia but a very common sight in Armenia), plus beef, pork, chicken, and lamb kabobs. There are also specialty pizzas, calzones, wings, and salads. For desserts, Flaming Pit offers baklava, cannoli, and zeppoli.

Owner Tigran Yesayan, who came to the United States from Armenia in 2002, told Armenian Weekly he decided to open the restaurant in Watertown because of the large Armenian community there.

Flaming Pit is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

And for khachapuri lovers seeking multiple options, Broadsheet Coffee Roasters in Cambridge (100 Kirkland St.) also serves them.
