Artur Alexanyan, the three-time world champion, four-time European champion, gold medalist of the Rio Olympic Games, the leader of Greco-Roman wrestling Armenian national team, has been recognized the best athlete of 2017 as a result of the traditional, annual online survey by NEWS.am Sport.
Aleksanyan got 35.7 percent of the votes.
The captain of the Armenian national football team, Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who became the European Cup winner this year, came the second. Mkhitaryan received 33.5 percent of votes.
The leader of the Armenian chess team Levon Aronian, who won the World Cup for the second time after 12 years, and qualified to the World Champion Candidates Tournament in Berlin in March was the third with 24.5 percent.
According to NEWS.am Sport poll of 2016, Aleksanyan was recognized the best by 46.7 percent of readers, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the second with 43.1 percent. Olympic bronze medalist Mihran Harutyunyan, who won the third place in Greco-Roman wrestling, received 6.5 percent of the votes.
