Manchester United fans have penned a heartfelt open letter to Henrikh Mkhitaryan following the Armenian's move to Arsenal.

Mkhitaryan completed his move to the Emirates on Monday evening in a sensational swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the other direction.

The midfielder had fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and had struggled for regular football with the Red Devils this term.

He scored just once in 15 Premier League appearances this season prior to his transfer and started just one top-flight fixture since November 5.

But United fans remembered his contributions last term, particularly in the Europa League as helped the club return to Europe's top table.

The letter, from MUSC Red Flag Belgium, also remembers Mkhitaryan's scorpion kick against Sunderland and wishes him well for his time at Arsenal.

Mkhitaryan himself wrote a letter to fans to thank them for their support during his time at Old Trafford.

He wrote: "I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Manchester United players and staff and especially the fans for your love, passion and support.

"I enjoyed having the honour of contributing to the history of your great club by winning the Europa League cup.

"I will always cherish the memory of that moment and that match."
