Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery in Shelburne hosts “Anecdotes: Paintings by Philip Hagopian,” opening April 13 through May 29.
The gallery plans a public reception Friday, April 13, 6-8 p.m. at 86 Falls Road.
Hagopian is an internationally acclaimed artist who has lived and painted in Lamoille County for many years. Born in 1959 in Massachusetts, the youngest of nine children to parents who had immigrated to New England to escape the political turmoil in Armenia, Hagopian is a graduate of the Art Institute of Boston and studied with master painter Frank Mason in Stowe.

His first solo exhibition was in 1980 at Earthlight Gallery in Boston and he has since exhibited throughout New England, New York and Boston.
Shortly after graduating, Hagopian left Boston and headed for the forests of northern Vermont where he began painting the rural landscape. He also started to create multi-media pieces as commentaries on the irony of human endeavor.
Williston resident Hagopian embraced his Armenian heritage and traveled to Armenia frequently where he eventually met his wife. He continues to exhibit in Armenia with appearances at the National Gallery of Armenia, as well as several galleries and art institutes.
