"Trump: US, allied strikes aimed at Syria's chemical weapons," April 14. First, the wholesale killing of the able-bodied male population through massacre and subjection of army conscripts to forced labor. Secondly, followed by the deportation of women, children, the elderly, and the infirm on death marches leading to the Syrian town of Deir ez-Zor and the surrounding desert. Driven forward by military escorts, the deportees were deprived of food and water and subjected to periodic robbery, rape, and massacre. Consistency would require Trump to recognize the Armenian massacres for what they were, Turkish-sponsored genocide! Every year, U.S. presidents issue proclamations condemning the massacres, but always avoid the word "genocide." President Ronald Reagan was the only president to use the word. Now is the time for the US government to join 48 U.S. states that have done so already. Only Mississippi and Alabama have yet to do so!
