Armenia's Simon Martirosyan snatches gold at European Weightlifting Championships

Armenia's Simon Martirosyan snatched a gold medal in the European Weightlifting Championships under way in Batumi, Georgia.

Performing in the 109 kg category, the holding World Champions won with a combined result og 427 kg.

The Armenian athlete lifted 192 kg in the snatch and 235 kg in the clean & jerk.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered.
