Sports: New sports school to be built in Armenian Gyumri

YEREVAN, May 7. /ARKA/. A new sports school named after Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Arthur Aleksanyan to be built in Armenia’s second-largest town of Gyumri will cost 480 million drams (about $998,000), the acting Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Gabriel Ghazaryan told a news conference today.

He said the Mayor’s Office of Gyumri should make a decision on the allocation of a land plot for the construction of the sports school. 

According to him, all the main technical procedures are planned to be completed during this year, and to begin the construction in 2020. 

Artur Aleksanyan, born in  1991) is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler. He is an Olympic Champion (2016) and bronze medalist (2012), a three-time World Champion (2014, 2015, 2017), and a four-time European Champion (2012, 2013, 2014, 2018). 

Aleksanyan is the second Olympic gold medalist of Armenia since regaining independence in 1991 and is the most decorated Olympian of independent Armenia as well. He has been nicknamed the "Polar Bear" and is one of the most renowned Armenian athletes of the 21st century.-0-
