YEREVAN. – A few days ago it became known that the ratification of the Istanbul Convention will not be debated on in the parliament of Armenia this year, and that this document will undergo a thorough examination by the expert and professional circles. Interesting details have become known to Past (Fact) newspaper in this regard, the paper reported.
“According to a source close to the government, [PM] Nikol Pashinyan has held a closed meeting in connection with this matter.
“According to the same source, [at the meeting] Pashinyan said that unless the general situation of the CC [Constitutional Court] is clarified, it is still senseless to make the Istanbul Convention a priority agenda. Pashinyan explained that it may be challenged at the CC, and they will face the fact.
“In fact, aside from the overall heated dissatisfaction [over the Istanbul Convention], this also has been the reason that the discussions on the convention have been temporarily suspended [in Armenia],” Past wrote.
