REP. JAMIE RASKIN CELEBRATES
ARMENIA’S COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRACY AND THANKS REP. JACKIE SPEIER FOR BOLSTERING
U.S.-ARMENIA RELATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a letter to the Armenian Assembly of
America (Assembly), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) celebrated Armenia’s commitment to
democracy and thanked Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) for bolstering U.S.-Armenia
relations.

Rep. Raskin
stated: “…I join you in spirit to celebrate Armenia’s remarkable political
transition and commitment to democracy. I would also like to join you in
recognizing my sensational and ubiquitous colleague, Congresswoman Jackie
Speier, who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to solidifying democracy
in Armenia and to strengthening relations between our two countries.”

“As co-chair
of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Congresswoman Speier has been a
fierce advocate for humanitarian assistance to Armenia and Artsakh and has
highlighted the importance of strong U.S.-Armenia relations. She has also
worked to educate the world about Armenia’s history in an effort to prevent
future atrocities,” he added.

Congresswoman
Speier was honored for her exemplary work in the U.S. House of Representatives,
as well as her leadership, dedication, and passionate support of Armenia and
Artsakh. Armenian American leaders and activists throughout the United States
attended the Gala in Washington, D.C., which was part of the Armenian Assembly
of America's 2019 National Advocacy Conference.

“I am grateful
for Congresswoman Speier’s leadership and her work to bolder the U.S. Armenia
partnership,” Rep. Raskin said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
