Bronze medalist of 2008 Beijing, Greco-Roman style wrestler Roman Amoyan posted the following on his Facebook page:
“Due to several phone calls and questions, I would personally like to comment on what happened to me. I haven’t violated any law. On the contrary, I was trying to understand what law I had violated. My actions have no political subtext. I had just come to support the president of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia thanks to whom Armenian sport has developed for many years, and I consider myself a part of Armenian sports. Unlike the current police officers who only perform tasks and execute orders, I have kept the national flag of Armenia at a high level. I don’t care about any comment posted by fakes. I simply have dignity and self-esteem. I’m not a transgender and haven’t violated any moral value. I don’t think there will be films about me. I don’t spread perversion. In closing, I would simply like to thank all those who supported me. This won’t go unanswered. I have never accepted an offer to wrestle and represent another country in order to make sure the national flag of the Armenian nation is held high, but it appears that this isn’t appreciated in my country.
Don’t split the nation and turn people into enemies. Don’t divide the people. Thank you.”
