Ex-president Kocharyan’s office thanks benefactors and citizens for support with bail payment

Panorama, Armenia

Armenia’s President Robert Kocharyan’s measure of restraint has been changed following the ruling of the Court of Appeals, requiring payment of the bail and completion of procedures envisaged by the law. As the former President’s Office said in a released statement, Kocharyan returned home, however will continue his recovery at Izmirlyan medical center according to schedule set by doctors.

“We are thankful to businessmen, benefactors who assisted Kocharyan’s family in paying a 2 billion AMD  bail and numerous citizens who voluntarily transferred funds to the respective state account,” the statement said.

To remind, on June 18, the Court of Appeals overturned the decision of the first instance court  over Kocharyan’s measure of restraint and granted 2 billion AMD ($4.2 million) bail for the ex-president’s release.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
