YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia writes: While now former president of the Constitutional Court [(CC)] Hrayr Tovmasyan was celebrating his 50th birthday yesterday in a narrow circle, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided not to use the interim measure demanded by Tovmasyan and CC three former members Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan and Felix Tokhyan, in connection with the recent amendments to the RA Constitution.
The ECHR decision was truly a surprise and in this case, an undesirable gift for [CC] former president Tovmasyan. Both he and the other [former CC] members had expected the ECHR to set an interim measure, and they had done everything possible for that; they had even used their connections and acquaintances, but this time it did not yield result. And yesterday they were unpleasantly surprised, not knowing what to do.
Let us add that as grounds for denying, the ECHR has noted that there is no danger of any serious and irreversible damage by the constitutional amendments to any of the key rights of those people enshrined in the convention. In fact, this decision of the ECHR was a slap to the former members of the CC.
