YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: Zhoghovurd daily has learned new details about the process of nominating candidates for a judge of the Constitutional Court [(CC)].
First of all, let us mention that Edgar Shatiryan, who will be the candidate for a judge of the Constitutional Court at the suggestion of the government, will meet today with the members of the NA [National Assembly] [majority] My Step faction.
Let us stress here that before nominating Vahram Avetisyan for the post, the government considered Edgar Shatiryan's candidacy, wanting to nominate him for the post from the beginning, but his age prevented him, as he turned 40 only on August 18. According to Article 4 of the Law on the RA Constitutional Court, it is a mandatory condition to be a judge of the Constitutional Court. And only now, when Vahram Avetisyan came out of the battle [for the CC judge] and Shatiryan turned 40, was it possible to nominate him for that position.
Let us note also that he [Shatiryan] received that offer from the board of the [ruling] Civil Contract Party and did not have a meeting in person with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
