Russia is Armenia's leading partner in the field of technico-military cooperation, and the only one in some domains. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, within the framework of the Army 2020 conference, Zvezda reported.
The minister noted that this is not the first year that Armenia participates in this exhibition and conference, and attaches great importance to its participation. "New contracts are signed every year. It is a very good dynamics which has not happened for many years," Tonoyan said.
The defense minister noted that Armenia buys contemporary and modernized weapons and military equipment from Russia. "Armenian and Russian private companies have signed numerous agreements in the field of military industry, and this is mainly a joint production in the territory of Armenia," the Armenian official added.
The minister stressed that no other country can be compared to the level of technico-military cooperation between Armenia and Russia.
Also, Tonoyan thanked the Russian side for its help in Armenia’s fight against the coronavirus.
Reference was also made to the cooperation between the two countries in military education. "Armenia sends cadets and officers to Russian higher education institutions every year for study and professional training," Davit Tonoyan said.
Furthermore, the minister of defense did not rule out the possibility of holding a large-scale event in Armenia this year in honor of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
