The Turkish extremists who attempted to attack members of the Armenian community in the French city of Decines-Charpieu on July 24 will be brought to justice, Sputnik-Armenia reports, citing Le Parisien.
There are nearly 4,000 Armenians living in Decines-Charpieu, which has a population of 30,000. On July 24, 600 people gathered at a public rally against Azerbaijan’s aggression on the border with Armenia. “The rally was peaceful, and there were members of the political council present at the event as well,” one of the active members of the Armenian community Danny-Claude Zardarian said, adding that about 100 armed Turkish activists tried to disturb the rally.
The videos of the rally show how groups of people holding Turkish national flags scream swear words and call on ‘finding the Armenians’. Afterwards, the Turks broke a few cars. The National Guard of France (CRS) interfered and used tear gas, and four Turkish activists (one of whom is a minor) were interviewed and arrested.
“Some Turks on social networks declare that the Gray Wolves organization has assumed responsibility for those actions,” local representative of the Armenian National Committee of France Raffi Tanzili stated, adding that this was the first major clash that the French police prevented.
When it turned out that the police were determined to establish law and order and a clash with the police wouldn’t be good, one of the Turks, Ahmed Cetin, called on the accomplices to lay down their weapons. It turned out that the Turkish ‘demonstrators’ were armed with metal rods.
Currently, Cetin, 23, is under arrest. On August 17, he was interviewed under the case of instilling ethnic hatred.
