After the recent war in Artsakh, it would be wrong to claim that Armenia’s Syunik Province is completely safe, MP Armen Khachatryan from the ruling My Step faction told reporters on Friday.
“I visit Syunik quite often, perhaps every week, it is not the mayor of Meghri who should mark me present or absent there. I will be visiting the region again in the coming days,” Khachatryan said, referring to the statement of the Meghri mayor that he did not visit Syunik, in particular the town of Meghri.
According to him, there are many problems in Syunik, as it has become a border region. He stated there is a lot of work to be done, including the installation of video surveillance systems and barbed wire, which are far from being finalized.
“It would naturally be wrong to announce that everything is very good and [Syunik is] completely safe after the war,” he said.
With regard to the statement by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev that Zangezur is a “historical land of Azerbaijan”, Armen Khachatryan noted:
“Arrogance and open cynicism of Aliyev are directly related to his mental state. I think he already has mental disorders; I will answer Aliyev's arrogance with a question: a citizen or resident of which country was his grandfather or great-grandfather? He cannot answer this question, because the country he leads does not have such a long history.”
