Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan on Tuesday defended the proposal to deploy international observers along some parts of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, stating everything possible must be done to resolve the continuing border standoff through peaceful diplomatic means.

“I believe the deployment of international observers is the right approach,” he told reporters in the parliament on Tuesday.

Grigoryan did not rule out the possibility of some actions and reactions by Azerbaijan, at the same time expressing hope diplomacy will have a chance to resolve the issue in the near future.

The caretaker deputy PM also dismissed the allegations of a possible handover of Armenian territories to Azerbaijan, adding the negotiations are being held in accordance with the terms of the January 11 document, which makes no mention of any road corridor.

Grigoryan said that the work of the trilateral working group on unblocking the transport routes has been suspended following the Azerbaijani incursion into Armenian territory.

“I do not think that constructive work is possible under these conditions. The contacts on that platform have been suspended recently, let's see how things are going," he said.
