Nur-Sultan, Jun 3 (EFE).- Kazakhstan and Armenia agreed here Thursday to strengthen political dialogue and trade cooperation during Armenian President Armen Sarkissian’s visit to Nur-Sultan.

“Armenia is a friendly country. Relations between our states are based on centuries-old traditions,” Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said after receiving his Armenian counterpart.

Tokayev added that both former Soviet republics are interested in developing their ties in different areas, the Kazakh president’s press office said.

The head of state of the largest country in Central Asia hailed the results of a recent visit by an Armenian government commission to Kazakhstan and stressed the good understanding between Nur-Sultan and Yerevan in regional blocs and international organizations.

Sarkissian, in turn, stressed that the Armenians and Kazakhs have had a long history of cooperation.

“Visiting Kazakhstan is like coming home,” he said.

The Armenian leader agreed with his colleague on the enormous potential for further expanding bilateral cooperation, mentioning trade, education, new technologies and food processing as the most promising areas.

During his visit to Kazakhstan, the Armenian leader was also received by that country’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The two men discussed bilateral cooperation, collaboration on international platforms and the challenges facing Armenia after its war with Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Sarkissian’s press office reported. EFE

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
