The Armenian authorities are trying to push the issue of territorial losses into the background, resorting to various manipulations, security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition With Honor faction, said in the parliament on Friday.
The Defense Ministry of Armenia reported earlier that it lost two combat positions as a result of the latest Azerbaijani aggression. In addition, since May 12, the Azerbaijani side has occupied around 41 square kilometers of Armenian territory in Syunik and Gegharkunik Provinces.
“The authorities are making great efforts, including through information manipulations, to put the key issue, the occupation of Armenian territories, on the back burner, and to divert the people’s attention to the secondary, tertiary elements of the issue,” the lawmaker stated.
He stressed the need to reveal the circumstances under which Azerbaijan launched the new aggression against Armenia, as well as its goals.
"It is necessary to find out what new threats it has created for Armenia in addition to occupying the country’s territories,” Abrahamyan stated.
He also expressed concerns over the lack of any news from around 20 Armenian soldiers missing in action.
"The videos of our soldiers being subjected to torture and violence, which are released on various Azerbaijani Telegram channels, are alarming. There are fears for their lives. Irrespective of the circumstances under which they went missing or were captured, our key task must be to ensure their return as quick as possible,” the MP stated.
