ISTANBUL, AUGUST 30, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Abraham Foxman,
the Head of the Jewish Anti-Defamation League (ADL) organization,
has declared once again that his organization will not, henceforth,
hesitate to use the word genocide when speaking about the Armenian
issue, the Daily Marmara of Istanbul reports. Foxman also declared
that Andrew Darsi, the Head of the "New England" organization,
who was earlier dismissed from his post for having recognized the
Armenian Genocide, has again been employed.
According to Daily Marmara, Foxman’s position on the Armenian
resolution to be discussed in U.S. Congress is not a distinct one. The
latter had made assertions in his letter addressed to the Turkish
Prime Minister that his organization will not support that resolution,
whereas the organization will include the question of recognizing or
not recognizing that resolution on the agenda of the sitting to be
held on November 1.
The Jews of Turkey have expressed their anxiety for many times and
claimed that ADL should not support the resolution on the Armenian
Genocide.
"As an organization supporting Jews, we cannot ignore the opinion of
the Jews living in Turkey. However, we are confronted with the dilemma
at the same time: our organization is against not only the anti-Jewish,
but also any kind of hatred that is dangerous for humanity as our
organization has been established for that very purpose. Therefore,
we could not disregard the tragedy that happened to Armenians under
the rule of the Ottoman Turkey.
We always told Turk officials during our meetings that Turks should
face their past. The Turkish state should take a moral responsibility
for what happened to Armenians. We know that there have been massacres
and we currently put the responsibility of giving a true interpretation
of what happened on the shoulders of Turkey," Abraham Foxman said.
