"Considering the opinions of the people, and the reality in today’s
political arena, I don’t see the need for Levon Ter Petrosyan’s
candidacy. He isn’t saying a thing, but I don’t see him offering his
candidacy," stated Vazken Manukyan, while talking about the upcoming
presidential elections.

In his words, if Ter Petrosyan wants to meet with him, he sees no
reason for that to not take place. "That also goes for a meeting
with Robert Kocharian. Meeting in itself doesn’t mean coming to any
agreements," he added.

Manukyan refutes talk about him and Ter Petrosyan being enemies, and
that that is why they don’t unite, saying this is "completely false."

"There were emotional relations between us in 1991, when I left the
post of prime minister, but such emotions ended there, and I have
nothing against him.

I struggle against the model he created for Armenia," Manukyan said.

To the question as to what might change with Ter Petrosyan’s return,
Manukyan replied, "Who is Levon Ter Petrosyan, do you know? I knew
Ter Petrosyan until 1998, when he was president, when we struggled
together in the name of certain ideals. But for the last 10 years we
haven’t seen that Ter Petrosyan, nor no new Ter Petrosyan. Whom are
we talking about?"

He repeated that the former president hasn’t put forth his candidacy,
and if these intrigues continue another two months, it will mean
Serge Sargsyan will become the next president.
