YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: Armenian foreign minister Vartan
Oskanian declined today to make forecasts about the intensity of
talks on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict next year.
According to Oskanian, ‘we are now at a stage, which is crucial in
terms of future developments, because both Armenia and Azerbaijan
are having in 2008 their presidential elections."
Addressing parliament members during a committee hearing on 2006 budget
performance he said, "What is important is whether the elections will
have any impact on the negotiations, if yes, to what extent.
They may likewise slow down the entire process," he said.
Oskanian told the lawmakers that the ongoing talks over the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement do not entail additional budget
expenses.
