SECULAR NEWS FROM THE HOLY SEE

The Armenian media reported on a recent disagreement between two
generals of Echmiadzin Seiran Saroyan and Manvel Grigoryan. We have
learned that the two generals expect to meet tete-a-tete to settle
their scores. The point is that one of the generals Seiran Saroyan
had gone away. Now he has returned, not to meet with Manvel Grigoryan
but because the fall session of the National Assembly starts soon.

Perhaps, however, with regard to progress in the country the
participation of General Saroyan in the first session of the parliament
is not as interesting as his meeting with General Grigoryan.

The controversy occurred from a charitable initiative by Saroyan and
the Holy See. In the pre-election period Saroyan had pledged free
buses for students from Echmiadzin who study in Yerevan. Saroyan
fulfilled his pledge together with the Holy See a few days ago.

However, General Manvel disliked this, who controls transport
between Echmiadzin and Yerevan. In fact, Saroyan and the Holy See
deprived General Manvel of a daily several hundred passengers. Our
source said when the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II tried
to interfere and settle the problem, who met with Manvel Grigoryan
and tried to calm the general and not to let him wage a fratricidal
war on his brother-in-arms, General Manvel told the patriarch: "you
want to get my children starve." Our source does not know what the
patriarch answered him. Maybe General Saroyan will answer General
Manvel’s question instead of the patriarch. Although it is possible
that they will reach a compromise – General Grigoryan will tolerate
the charity, General Saroyan and the Holy See will not charge a fee
from Grigoryan’s relatives.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
