Hovanes Galajyan, reporter of the Iskakan Iravunk newspaper, had been
attacked and beaten with metal sticks on September 15. The reporter
was taken to hospital with brain concussion and injuries on the head.

He had been attacked earlier last year, but the wrongdoers were not
exposed. On September 17 the deputy leader of the Republican Party
Galust Sahakyan haosted at the Friday Club criticized the incident
and said it damages the country’s reputation, especially with the
presidential election coming up.

"I believe that no matter what a reporter says, in some cases you
may refute, in other cases you may not refute, in any case, it is
an action against the freedom of speech, and I think as this period
is highly politicized, it will get a considerable backlash, and in
fact, it is a matter of our nation’s image and generally our image,"
Galust Sahakyan says.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
