The Prime Minister’s Message

THE PRIME MINISTER’S MESSAGE

Hayoc Ashkharh
21 Sept 2007

Dear compatriots,
I congratulate all of us on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of
the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
The age-old dream of Armenian people has got 16 years history. On
September 21, 1991 we opened a new page for the history of Armenia
that we have been writing with united efforts. War that we won, crisis
that we overcame and high economic growth, institutions characteristic
to a modern state, developing social- political atmosphere and a big
potential to rise. These are the things already recorded in those
pages. And many other things are written there. But I’m confident
together we have lots of things to add to those "notes".
There have been and there are difficulties: homeless people,
poverty, corruption and violated rights. We have felt bad about it and
struggled against similar phenomena. But we have always loved our
state. We have loved it in a sensible way. And this sensibility
demands to contribute to the future progress of our country, with our
hard work, care and devotion.
One more time I congratulate all of us on the occasion of our
Independence, with true belief that all the coming victories will be
for the sake of and in the glory of the Republic of Armenia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
