Report: 1950 – George Marshall sworn in as the 3rd
Secretary of Defense of United States.
Defense: 1964 – Malta becomes independent from the
United Kingdom.
Military Aviation: 1964 – The XB-70 Valkyrie, the
world’s first bomber aircraft to reach the speed of
Mach 3, makes its maiden flight from Palmdale,
California.
Defense: 1965 – Singapore admitted as a part of the
United Nations.
Defense: 1972 – In the La Maddalena island, Sardinia
(Italy) is establishes the US base for the nuclear
submarines.
