The Republic of Armenia is marking Independence Day. The republic
held an independence referendum precisely 16 years ago.
"We opened a new page in the history of the Armenian people on
September 21, 1991," says a congratulatory message by Prime Minister
Serzh Sargsyan. "The victory we have won, the crisis we have resolved,
a high economic growth we have achieved, the public and political
environment we have developed, and a high potential of our growth
are written on this page."
Armenia develops extensive political, economic, military and
humanitarian cooperation in Russia and actively participates in the
CIS and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
"We had and still have certain problems – homeless families, poverty,
corruption and violated rights," the premier said. "Such things upset
us and prompt our response, but we have always loved this country."
