ARMENIA CONSISTENT IN FIGHTING TERRORISM – FOREIGN MINISTER

Yerevan, 24 September: Armenia is consistent in fighting terrorism,
[Armenian] Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan has said at a meeting with
a delegation of the executive directorate of the Counter-Terrorism
Committee of the UN Security Council, headed by the acting director
for anti-terrorism affairs, Sergey Karev, conducting a regional visit
to Armenia, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told
Novosti-Armenia news agency on Monday [24 September].

Oskanyan said that the Armenian side is consistent in the process of
fighting terrorism and, participating in the global fight against
terrorism, adheres to responsibilities placed by the international
community in this sphere.

The minister said that Armenia has ratified 12 out of the 13 UN
conventions in this sphere, the last one – the convention on fighting
nuclear terrorism – was signed by the prime minister during the UN
General Assembly in 2005.

During the meeting with Armenia’s foreign minister, Sergey Karev highly
assessed Armenia’s cooperation with the Counter-Terrorism Committee,
saying that Armenia is one of countries that submit regular and
timely reports on compliance with UN Security Council requirements
for fighting terrorism.

According to the ministry, the delegation will work in Armenia in
two teams: legislative and law-enforcement teams which will meet
officials from specific governmental agencies.
