"Let’s take a look at what ideas we are struggling for in
Armenia. What ideas are announced and what can be done about
these ideas are completely separated from each other," said Vazgen
Manukyan today during a meeting with journalists, while talking
about the pronouncements political parties make and the actual work
they accomplish. He spoke mostly about Dashnaktsutyun, ANM, and the
Republicans. "The Republicans present themselves as a traditional
party, one who keeps and maintains values, but even their members show
otherwise, even in their daily lives," he said. About Dashnaktsutyun,
Manukyan said they talk about socialism, but always vote alongside
big business. "At the time of privatization, while I was against
being too liberal, they were just the opposite," he pointed out,
adding that even now Dashnaktsutyun presents itself as a socialist
organization. "ANM is liberal, and even somewhat cosmopolitan. Usually
liberal parties don’t create monopolies or clans, and elections are
run legally," Manukyan expressed. Talking about those who aspire to
improve democracy, including ANM, Manukyan said that even though he
personally was part of the ruling authorities, as defense minister
and prime minister, those who profess to believe in democracy still
haven’t been in charge of the government, in the practical sense of
the word, so it is hard to judge whether their actions correspond
with their words or not.
