YEREVAN, OCTOBER 2, NOYAN TAPAN. "The Christian-Democratic Union of
Armenia is not going to run for the forthcoming presidential elections
with its own candidate." Khosrov Haroutiunian, the party Chairman,
stated at the October 2 press conference. According to him, the party’s
decision to support this or that candidate will be made depending on
the circumstance what programs the candidates will propose.
Touching upon the issue of the first President’s return to politics,
K. Haroutiunian said that Levon Ter-Petrosian has a "very modest
political and public resource." According to the leader of the
Christian-Democratic Union of Armenia, L. Ter-Petrosian’s last
public speech was rather aimed at the foreign world and expressed his
expectations from the foreign world. "Any politician should realize
very well that pinning his hopes on support of foreign forces can
have negative consequences for Armenia. A colored revolution would
be a wastefulness for us," K. Haroutiunian said.
At the same time, he said that L. Ter-Petrosian’s running for the
presidential elections will make the struggle more interesting.
