Armenian president says Karabakh settlement unlikely before 2008
election

Yerevan, 11 October: Armenian President Robert Kocharyan does not
consider realistic a settlement of the Nagornyy-Karabakh conflict
before the presidential elections of 2008 in Armenia.

As a special correspondent of Mediamax reports from Brussels, Robert
Kocharyan said this on 10 October during the joint briefing with the
president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso. According
to the Armenian president, the present situation in the negotiation
process does not allow hoping to reach an agreement before the
upcoming presidential elections in Armenia.

At that, Robert Kocharyan stressed, in the course of the recent few
years, "we have gone a long way and reached agreements on a number of
fundamental issues".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
