Builders make mistakes, people become nervous, but city hall expresses
hope

According to our information, at Miasnikyan Boulevard, across from the
Botanical Gardens, during the construction of an underground waterway,
builders made certain errors, causing a temporary halt in
construction. Concerning this, Panorama.am received an explanation
from city hall official Frunz Basentsyan, saying, `The builders didn’t
go in the wrong direction. There were only small mistakes. The tunnel
only went off course a short distance, as if they hadn’t, they would
have been forced to enter private property, but this has no tie to any
deadline. Solutions were found and work is now back underway.’

In this section of the road, traffic jams occur off and on during the
day, which causes anger among drivers. `Whenever we look, no one is
working, work is at a standstill,’ drivers often protest, angry at the
lack of activity by workers. `People are only looking from their
windows. If they looked down below, they would see that work has never
stopped,’ Basentsyan noted. City hall assures that the boulevard will
be passable by November 10, and that by November 25 the underground
passageway will be completed.

Basentsyan also assures that the construction work on Freedom
Boulevard, near Victory Gardens, will be completed by November
20. Until that, sections of Yerevan’s major boulevards will remain in
their current condition, causing tension to drivers who only hope city
hall’s deadlines are met.

To the question of whether he really expects construction deadlines to
be met, since past experience shows this not to be the case,
Basentsyan said, `How should I know? If nothing unexpected happens, we
should finish the work as planned.’

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
