YEREVAN, OCTOBER 16, NOYAN TAPAN. FIFA President Sepp Blatter and UEFA
President Michel Platini were on a two-day visit to Armenia. Prior
to leaving our country, they gave a joint press conference with the
President of the Armenian Football Federation Ruben Hayrapetian,
during which they said that they had participated in the ceremony of
laying the foundation stone of the Children’s and Youth Sport School –
Technical Cemter of National Teams in the area adjacent to Acharian
Street in Yerevan and visited the reconstructed complex of Banants
Football Club.

In response to the question about two failed matches between the
national teams of Armenia and Azerbaijan under Euro 2008 program,
M. Platini said the decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee
based on an expert study.

According to him, given the relations between the two South Caucasian
countries, henceforth neither national nor other teams of Armenia
and Azerbaijan will be included in the same group.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
