YEREVAN (YERKIR) – Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis
told a news conference today that EU experts will be traveling to
Azerbaijan to study the crimes perpetrated against Armenian cultural
and religious monuments.

Speaking at the news conference held jointly with Armenian Foreign
Minister Vardan Oskanian, Davis said hat because Azerbaijan has also
voiced similar allegations of vandalism against Armenia and Karabakh,
observers will also travel to Armenia.

"Both the Council of Europe and personally I do everything to address
these allegations of destruction of religious and cultural monuments,"
Davis said, adding that the issue was also discussed at his meeting
with the Armenian prime minister. He said he was happy that the
Armenian authorities are ready to accept the EU experts and that they
do not condition it with the decision of the Azerbaijani authorities.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
