IRAN STANDS FOR PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF THE KARABAKH CONFLICT

November 6 the delegation headed by the Defense Minister of the Islamic
Republic of Iran, Major General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar arrived in
Armenia on a three-day official visit.

November 7 Mostafa Mohammad Najjar had a meeting with RA Defense
Minister Michael Harutyunyan, followed by an official meeting in an
enlarged format.

The parties stated that the recent meeting between the Presidents of
the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia will greatly
promote the deepening of economic and cultural relations between the
two countries, and will serve as an impetus for cooperation in the
military and military-technical spheres.

Emphasizing the high level of relations between Armenia and Iran, the
parties expressed willingness to develop the reciprocally beneficial
cooperation and intensify the mutual visits. The interlocutors
exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues,
particularly stressing that the two countries have cultural
similarities and can implement programs in the military and
military-technical fields, as well.

Speaking about the Karabakh conflict settlement, Major General
Mostafa Mohammad Najjar noted that Iran’s position on the issue has
not changed: the issue must be solved in a peaceful way.

The Defense Ministers of the two countries also discussed the
Armenian-Iranian relations in various spheres, the current state and
perspectives of cooperation.
