MILITARY CO-OPERATION BETWEEN TURKEY AND AZERBAIJAN CONTINUES: PRESIDENT OF TURKEY

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Azerbaijan and Turkey
have been military allies since the beginning of the 20th century and
this co-operation is continuing today as well, said the President of
Turkey, Abdullah Gul, whilst answering the question of Trend regarding
possibility of military union between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Gul expressed his attitude towards the possibility of military union
for fighting against occupation, terrorism. He said that already
in 1918 the Turkish soldiers arrived in Azerbaijan and assisted in
fighting against occupants. " Azerbaijan and Turkey are allies,"
the President said.

According to Gul, Azerbaijan supports Turkey in fight against PKK.

"Turkey has not goals to occupy Iraq, we fight against terrorism,"
he said. Speaking of existence of the Armenians in the terrorist PKK,
Gul said that the people involved in illegal affairs have always been
like-minded persons.
