The breakdown of the voting of Resolution 106 about the Armenian
Genocide did much good to the negotiations between the USA and Turkey.

The negotiations between President of the USA and the Turkish
Prime-Minister finished in a rather predicted way: Bush practically
gave carte blanche to the Turkish invasion of Northern Iraq, calling
it antiterrorist operations. After the negotiations with George Bush,
Recep Erdoghan announced that Turkey had decided to carry military
operation and is not on the threshold of war.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "I particularly emphasize that what we are going to
realize is a military operation. The specialists and representatives
of General Staff are well aware of it," he said, and added, that he
doesn’t excluded that this decision may become the "reason of war"
in the south-eastern part of Turkey and in the whole country.

Besides Erdoghan once again emphasized that Turkey "uses all
the rights issued by the international law, against separatist
terrorist organization in Northern Iraq, which threatens the
territorial integrity and security of the country." "If the military
operation is carried out it will exceptionally be against the
Kurdistan Workers Party and never against the civilian population,"
announced Erdoghan. According to him, Ankara thinks that "Turkey
expects effective cooperation from its allies in its fight against
the Kurdistan Workers Party," says ITAR-TASS. However, President of
Turkey Abdullah Gul is not as categorical and announced that "Turkey
hasn’t decided yet what measures it will take against the Kurdistan
Workers Party, but the fact that the Party poses great threat for
Turkey and Northern Iraq, is out of question." Gul also mentioned that
one of the most important achievements of Erdoghan’s visit was the
US support for the anti-terrorist operations. "Stabilization of Iraq
isn’t limited to calmness in Baghdad or in other provinces. Terrorists
in the north of the country also threaten the stabilization of Iraq,"
quotes Associate Press the words of the President.

According to the official representative of Iraqi Kurdistan in the
CIS countries Babakra Khoshavi, if Ankara still starts a transboundery
operation, it will be doomed to failure. "Many years these mountainous
regions have been out of control and those who are familiar with the
guerrilla warfare know how complicated it is to carry any military
actions in such conditions. Turkey has more than once tried to make it
happen, but the operations failed. That is why we call Turkey to solve
these problems in a peaceful way, so that the whole region wouldn’t
suffer destabilization", said the representative of Kurdistan during
the Press-Conference in Moscow.

If Turkey indeed unleashes the war with Iraq, and it must be mentioned
that everything leads to this, it means that Turkey is not only
interested in extermination of the Kurdish militants. Ankara wants
first of all to become the power holder of the region.

Turkey tries to find common language with the Arab World, which because
of the friendship of Ankara and Tel-Aviv don’t favor Turkey much. All
that is going on at the moment makes Turkey’s "new" foreign policy,
which at the moment looks at the USA, but looks for closer allies,
like Russia.

According to experts, the independent country of Kurdistan already
exists; it only has to receive its legal recognition. "The existence of
the Kurdish State will put an end to the current Turkish Republic. The
USA’s efforts will not bring to anything any way, and Turkey will
unleash the war in Northern Iraq, which will result in Iraq’s
federalization. But this is not the only factor to put an end to
Turkey. Turkey will be shattered by national and religious issues,
because the representatives of other ethnic communities living under
Ankara’s pressure will stand up," says Armenian historian Haikazun
Alvrtsyan.

It should be mentioned that the breakdown of the voting of Resolution
106 about the Armenian Genocide did much good to the negotiations
between the USA and Turkey. The truth is that Turks are too "upset"
to be happy with the promise of help. "It will be very difficult for
the USA to handle the situation, if it doesn’t offer something to
the Kurdistan Workers Party. The American-Turkish relations are being
through hard times, they have improved a little, but they won’t be like
they used to. Many countries pass bills concerning the events of 1915,
but for the first time a country denies its recognition so publicly,"
thinks the analyst of the International Crisis Group Hue Pop.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
