PERES: ISRAEL ALWAYS SUPPORTS TURKEY’S PROPOSAL IN ARMENIAN ISSUE

Israeli President Simon Peres gave a clear support to Turkey’s position
in Armenian issue. Peres said "Israel has always supported and will
support Turkey’s proposal to form a joint commission of historians. It
would be logical to assess events of the early 20th century basing
on a historical research".
The Nobel Peace Prize Awarded Israeli President Simon Peres had
declared that the Armenian political claims are meaningless in the
1990s. Peres in one of his speeches when he was foreign minister had
left no doubt about that Israel has a similar view with the Turkish
government on the question of the 1915 Relocation, saying that the
fate of the Armenians in Anatolia was a ‘tragedy’, not a genocide.
Peres further continued:
‘Armenian allegations are meaningless… We reject attempts to create
a similarity between the Holocaust and the Armenian allegations.
Nothing similar to the Holocaust occurred. It is a tragedy what
the Armenians went through but not a genocide… Israel should not
determine a historical or philosophical position on the Armenian
issue. If we have to determine a position, it should be done with
great care not to distort the historical realities.’
