YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, NOYAN TAPAN. At the November 15 sitting, the
government made a decision to ahead of schedule stop the commissions
of Varuzhan Nersisian, the Mayor of the town of Ijevan, Tavush region,
as well as to hold special election of Mayor on the last Sunday of
the 30-day term following the day of decision’s coming into force.

As Noyan Tapan was informed by the Information and Public Relations
Department of the RA government, the Mayor of Ijevan conditioned
his resignation by the circumstance that the day of Mayor’s election
coincides with the day of the RA presidential election, therefore,
for the purpose of organizing Mayor’s election more efficiently for
voters, he considered as expedient to move the day of Mayor’s election
through resignation.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
