Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Karabakh Liberation
Organization (KLO), may stage a raly in front of the Azerbaijan
Foreign Ministry, stated by Akif Nagi, the chairman of KLO, in an
appeal submitted to the Foreign Minster Elmar Mammadyarov. The appeal
stated, that the loyal attitude of the representative of Azerbaijan
foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim, the visit of a group of NGOs to
Yerevan and the participation in the ‘Week of Azerbaijan’ in Yerevan,
cause a lot of issues.
Ganja and Agstafa-Gazakh region representatives of the Azerbaijani
Committee of Helsinki Civil Assembly and the director of the Centre
of Human Being in the Mingachevir region Jiansh Omar, journalist
Seymur Baycan, head of the agency, the third view Rauf Rajabov and
thehead of the Consensus NGO Afat Sariyeva, paid a visit to Yerevan
in order to attend an event called ‘Days of Azerbaijan in Yerevan’
which will last from 17 to 23 December.
Mr. Ibrahim said in an interview to the press that the visit is
directed to inform about the true about Azerbaijan in Armenia. "We
do not want that one wrong statement to be understood as an official
position of the Ministry on the issue. Armenia attempts to confuse
world community to form a peacemaker image. And Azerbaijanis attending
the meeting, confirms Armenia as a peacemaker country," stated in
the appeal.
"KLO demands to clear Khazar’s position in the issue. Otherwise KLO
will stage a rally in front of the Foreign Ministry," Nagi stated.
The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in
1988 due to the Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since
1992, the Armenian Armed Forces have occupied 20% of Azerbaijan
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and its seven neighbouring
districts. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire
agreement which ended the active hostilities. The Co-Chairs of the
OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding
the peaceful negotiations.
On 28 Jan 2000, the KLO was established in Baku, with an objective
of the public struggle for the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh. KLO
unites the representatives of intelligentsia, refugees, the internally
displaced persons (IDPs), old and young people as well as the former
military soldiers.
