The release of Azeri soldier Samir Mamedov, who has been held in
captivity in Armenia for a year, is being delayed because of the
pressure put on him, the head of the State Commission working group
for war prisoners, hostages and missing persons, told journalists
on Tuesday.

"It is the first time that there is such a delay in the release of
a military prisoner. The analysis of the facts shows this person is
being put under serious pressure," the official said

Allegations by the Armenian press that Mamedov voluntarily defected
to the Armenian side are not true, he said.

Mamedov was captured by the Armenian army on December 24, 2006.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
