A LOT OF BIDS SUBMITTED FROM ARMENIA FOR PARTICIPATION IN "IMAGINE CUP 2008" ON-LINE CONTEST

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 21, NOYAN TAPAN. The use of information technologies
for environmental protection is at a low level in Armenia, so software
solutions of participants of "Imagine Cup 2008" contest may be used for
implementation of various programs in this sphere, Bagrat Yengibarian,
the director of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation – the co-organizer
of the contest in Armenia, stated at the December 20 press conference
dedicated to the start of the contest’s regional phase. "Imagine
Cup 2008" is being held under the slogan "Imagine a World, in which
Information Technologies Contribute to Improvement of the Environment".

The director of Microsoft’s Armenian subsidiary – Microsoft RA company
Grigor Barseghian said that more than 100 thousand students from over
100 countries took part in "Imagine Cup 2007" on IT use in education,
and over 200 students from 57 countries participated in the finals
in Seoul.

According to him, "Imagine Cup 2008" will be held in the following
categories: development of software application, software algorithms,
software interfaces, creation of computer games, photos, short
videofilms, creation of IT infrastructures, "Save the Professor"
game contest (students will have to help Prof. Khoshimi overcome
difficulties by creating small software), and creation of portable
equipment. The contest will be held on-line for all the categories,
except for development of software application. G. Barseghian
announced that quite a great number of Armenian participants have
already registered on "We can hardly have great
expectation for the first participation in this contest but I am
sure that this is a good opportunity for our youth and country to
show their potential in the IT sector," he stated.

The award fund of "Imagine Cup" international finals is 200 thousand
USD.

Besides, the finals’ participants will have the investment attraction
opportunity to turn their solutions into a final product.

B. Yengiarian attached special importance to the contest from the
viewpoint that in implementing their solutions, the participating
groups will cooperate with environmental experts.
