ArmInfo. The Armenian government qualifies the settlement of transport
problems as one of the priority tasks of Armenia’s economic policy,
Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan said during a meeting with
President of the Russian Railways JSC Vladimir Yakunin, Wednesday.

As the Armenian governmental press-service told ArmInfo, railway
transport plays an important role here, Sargsyan said. He stressed
that a decision has been taken to pass the Armenian Railway for
concessional management to raise the efficiency of the railway
transport’s activity. Pointing out the significance of the concessional
management and implementation of investment programs stipulated by
the tender, Sargsyan expressed confidence that this will increase the
efficiency and security of railway carriages, enlarge their volumes,
meet the main international requirements, upgrade the rolling-stock,
create vacancies, as well as to raise the qualification of employees
and improve their working conditions. Serzh Sargsyan also emphasized
that the government will not interfere with the concessionaire’s
activity if the latter wishes to contribute to settlement of problems
related to the railway’s development.

For his part, Vladimir Yakunin thanked Serzh Sargsyan and noted that
his company realizes the degree of its responsibility. The company
has great experience and opportunities and it is confident that it
will implement the obligations it assumed in a worthy manner.

To recall, today the Russian Railways was declared the winner of the
tender on passing the Armenian Railway for concessional management.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
