VOTER LISTS SUBJECT TO CONSTANT CHANGES, POLICE
DEPARTMENT HEAD SAYS

YEREVAN, JANUARY 25, ARMENPRESS: Alvina Zakarian,
head of a police department in charge of visas and
passports, tasked also with preparing and verifying
all voter lists, told a news conference today that by
January 10 there were 2,311,665 registered eligible
voters.
She said these preliminary lists were given to the
Central Election Commission which has posted them on
its official website and to all 1,923 local
commissions which have fixed them in polling stations
so that voters could check their names and report
possible inaccuracies.
She said officials in charge of verifying the lists
work constantly and by January 24 the number of voters
rose to 2,312,945.
`The lists are being changed every day, as some
people die, some travel out of the country, some get
detained and some others get sentenced to prison
terms,’ Mrs. Zakarian said.
`Since January 10, after we unveiled preliminary
lists, 4,001 servicemen returned from mandatory
military service and their names were included in the
lists, while 1,981 deceased people’s names were
withdrawn,’ she said.
She said the preliminary lists were provided also
to Armenian Postal Service which will notify every
voter about the day, place and time of the
presidential voting. The police also has a hot line
for voters to report about inaccuracies.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
