Vladimir Chernievski, commercial director of the Ukrainian ferry
company Ukrferry, wraps up a three-day visit to Armenia today, having
discussed ways to improve ferry transit from Ilichevsk to Poti and
Batumi with businessmen and government officials.
Chernievski met Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication
Andranik Manukyan as well as the Union of Industrialists, according
to Armenian news agency Panorama.
Ukrferry used to have a monopoly on Armenian cargo ferry
transportation, but has experienced serious competition from the
Russian-run Kavkaz-Poti route which went operational in 2007. The
Ukrainian embassy in Yerevan released a statement saying the recent
visit was aimed at increasing economic ties between the two countries.
