YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 20, NOYAN TAPAN. The CIS observation mission
recognizes the February 19 presidential elections of the Republic
of Armenia as free and transparent. This statement was made by
Konstantin Zatulin, the Head of the CIS observation group, at the
press conference held on February 20. In his words, the mission has
recorded its conclusions based only on its own observations. And those
observations, according to Konstantin Zatulin, speak about that fact
that certain faults, have taken place in the electoral process, which,
however, cannot influence the result of the elections.

In the words of Konstantin Zatulin, it is surprising that certain
candidates do not accept their defeat. "I am disappointed with the
fact that Levon Ter-Petrosian, the first President of the Republic
of Armenia, led himself up that blind alley. I cannot understand in
any way how a candidate, who managed to argue with all the other
opposition candidates during the campaign, could expect success,"
K. Zatulin said. He also expressed surprise in connection with the
fact that certain people purposefully act the way so as clashes arise
between the people and law enforcement bodies.
